These procedures are solely for the transfer of Critical Care patients. All other transfers need to be arranged in the normal fashion
Revised Memo- Last updated 16th October 2003
General Principles:
* This process is for arranging ambulance transport for critically ill patients only. Transfer of patients who are stable should be arranged through normal procedures.
* The transferring unit should make the call when the unit knows where the patient will be transferred, not just at the time when the patient is ready to go.
* The Ambulance Service may require time to ensure the vehicle is adequately stocked with fuel and oxygen etc.
* The Ambulance Service may have to find solutions around shift finish times as consideration will be given to driving hours.
Please follow these five steps:
1. Decision to transfer patient
2. Contact Ambulance Control on the following number (the difference in numbers is solely around priorities in call answering within the control room)
3. Immediate Transfer Request - 0151 264
6902.
Planned Transfer Request - 0151 264
6904.
4. Clearly identify yourself and that you wish to arrange with the Duty Control Manager a "Critical Care Transfer".
5. Duty Control Manager will make the necessary arrangements for the transfer against the general principles.
